A few years ago, Buffalo State College Foundation board chair Linda Dobmeier, ’71, gave a stirring speech at the annual dinner honoring members of the Peterson Society, Buffalo State’s legacy giving club. Her talk about the university’s ability to transform lives inspired many that evening, including her fiancé, Bill O’Loughlin, and her mother, Helen Dobmeier, who both decided to join Linda in naming Buffalo State in their estate plans.
O’Loughlin, the WGRZ-TV talk-show personality and former Amherst town councilman, recalled: “Linda’s passion and commitment to Buffalo State is inspirational. She motivated me at that dinner to take a more active role in supporting the college. “And the more
involved I have become, the more impressed I am with this school.”
By including a bequest to Buffalo State in their wills, Linda, Helen, and Bill are supporting students through scholarships. Bill has designated his gift specifically for broadcasting students.
“Many of us stand where we are today because of our college education. It’s imperative that the next generation have the same access to high-quality, affordable education that made such an impact on our lives,” said Dobmeier, who earned her bachelor’s degree in education at Buffalo State before joining her family business as vice president of Dobmeier Janitor Supply Inc. “Making a bequest to Buffalo State is one very effective way for me to help provide opportunities for students of today and tomorrow.”
