Trees Along Rockwell Road Get Colorful Makeover

Posted: February 15, 2017

The trees on Buffalo State’s Commencement Walk along Rockwell Road have been wrapped with colorful bands of fabric. Similar to yarn bombing street-art projects, this colorful display employs vibrant cloth instead of paint or chalk. The purpose is to bring attention to the Student Philanthropy Council's 2017 giving campaign, which is devoted to raising awareness and donations for the Maud Gordon Holmes Arboretum.

On February 7, Buffalo State student volunteers and organizations united to wrap more than 20 trees with fabric donated by the Alumni Association.

At its peak, the arboretum contained nearly 1,700 trees and shrubs. Unfortunately, hundreds of trees have been lost and need to be replaced. The Student Philanthropy Council has partnered with United Students Government and the Friends of the Maud Gordon Holmes Arboretum to raise funds to return the arboretum to its former glory.

The entire campus community is welcome to participate by donating, getting involved, and learning more about upcoming events by contacting Pam Voyer at (716) 878-3725.
