Student Apartment Complex Officially Opens Tuesday

Posted: September 12, 2011

Buffalo State will hold a ceremonial ribbon cutting for its new $45 million Student Apartment Complex on Tuesday, September 13, at noon at the building’s main entrance on Rees Street.

The ribbon cutting marks yet another milestone in Buffalo State’s construction boom. Starting in 2009, the campus engaged in a roster of capital projects that will result in nearly $350 million in new construction and improvements by 2016, including a $110 million Science and Mathematics Complex and a $38 million Technology Building.

The Student Apartment Complex—a 125-apartment, 500-bed facility—provides residents with a fully furnished, state-of-the-art campus dwelling in the heart of Buffalo’s cultural corridor. The 225,000-square-foot complex is located at Letchworth and Grant streets, on the west side of campus, adjacent to the Sports Arena. It is Buffalo State’s largest addition to campus student housing since the early 1970s.

“There are a lot of things to like about Buffalo State’s new Student Apartment Complex, particularly its environmentally responsible construction and its strategic and inviting design,” said Buffalo State President Aaron Podolefsky. “Most importantly, though, we’re pleased to be able to respond to our students’ requests and offer them conveniently located apartment-style housing that is safe and convenient.”

Consisting of three wings of varying heights, the complex is designated for upper-division, graduate, and transfer students. A popular choice among students, the complex is fully occupied for fall 2011.

Each apartment features four single bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a spacious kitchen and living room. This provides both the comfort and privacy of single bedrooms and the social benefits of apartment-style living. The complex includes a wide range of amenities, from 24-hour broadband Internet and cable television access to free laundry facilities and air-conditioned rooms.

Designed by Cannon Design of Grand Island, New York, and constructed by LPCiminelli of Buffalo, the complex was completed under its budgeted cost.

The student apartment complex was developed by the Buffalo State College Foundation Housing Corporation, a 501(c)(3) corporation established by the Buffalo State College Foundation, and facilitated by the Buffalo State Alumni Association.
